Description
Gadolinium Gd 99.9% 99.99%, is a silvery white rare earth metal with strong ductility, sixth period III B group element with hexagonal crystal structure, melting point 1313°C and density 7.901g/m3, which is magnetic at room temperature and stable in dry air, but easy to be oxidized and darken in humid atmosphere, insoluble in water but dissolve in acid to form the corresponding salts. Gadolinium metal exhibits good super conductivity, high magnetic moment and Curie point at room temperature, and highest thermal neutron capture surface. Gadolinium Gd is often used as neutron absorbing, control and protective material in atomic reactor, and widely used as samarium cobalt magnet additives, capacitor manufacturing, magneto-optical materials, a regulator of MRI diagnosis, optical magnetic recording medium, X-ray intensification, in microwave technology, fluorescent powder of color television, and solid state magnetic cooling medium by magnetization refrigeration to obtain ultra-low temperature close to absolute zero from gadolinium salts etc.
