Magnesium Fluoride

Magnesium Fluoride MgF₂, white crystal appearance, 99.99% purity, melting point 1261°C, density 3.15g/cm³, is insoluble in water but soluble in acid. It shows mauve fluorescence when heated under electric light, and its crystal has good polarization, especially suitable for ultraviolet and infrared spectrum.

Magnesium Fluoride MgF₂ is mainly used as coating material for optical lens to improve the image quality, and also find application in magnesium smelting fusing agent, electrolytic aluminum additives, spectrum reagent, ceramic, glass and electronic industry, fluorescent material for cathode ray screen etc. MgF₂ is stable and difficult to separate even under strong electrolysis, which should be stored in cool and dry place.
