Description
Niobium Carbide NbC, light brown powder, with sodium chloride type cubic crystal system, melting point 3490°C, boiling point 4300°C, density 7.56g/cm3, is insoluble in water and in inorganic acid, but soluble in the mixed acid of hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid and can be decomposed. Niobium Carbide can not only be used as additive to inhibit the growth of the alloy grains to fine the cemented carbide crystalline grain in the production of cemented carbide, but also form the third dispersed phase with other carbides except WC and Co, which can significantly improve the thermal hardness, thermal shock resistance, hot pressing resistance and oxidation resistance of cemented carbide. With the advantages of improving the hardness and fracture toughness of the alloy, it can be used to prepare cemented carbide tool materials with excellent cutting performance. Besides, being higher melting point, high hardness and chemical stability, NbC is also used as high temperature refractory material and spray coating material in aerospace industry.

Tantalum Carbide TaC, brown color powder, cubic crystal structure of sodium chloride type, molecular weight 192.96, density 14.3g/cm3, melting point 3880°C, boiling point 5500°C, is insoluble in water and inorganic acids, and can dissolve in the mixture of hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid and decompose. Tantalum Carbide plays an important role in inhibiting grain growth and improving red hardness and wear resistance of the alloy, enhancing the oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of the alloy and improving the structure of the alloy. With high chemical stability and high temperature character, TaC is an important additive to fine crystalline grain of WC for cutting tool with great hardness similar to the diamond. It can also offer great resistance to the temperature up to 3880°C, and finds wide applications in the fields such as hard alloys, targets, welding materials, cermets, electronics, machinery and aviation industry.
