Description
Scandium Sc 99.9%, 99.99%, 99.999%, is a light silvery white metal with very active chemical properties, the group IIIB transition element with hexagonal close packed lattice structure, melting point 1541°C and density 2.985 g/cm³, which is soluble in water and can react with hot water to produce hydrogen, easy to be oxidized in air with slightly yellow or pink, easy to weathering and slowly dissolves in most dilute acids. Scandium should be kept in cool and dry warehouse and away from oxidants, acids and moisture etc. Scandium Sc is widely used as metal halide electric light source for scandium sodium lamp, in solar photovoltaic cells, γ-ray radiation source, as dopant of aluminum, tungsten and chromium alloy, and also finds applications in nuclear energy industry, fuel cell industry, and is often used as a catalyst in chemical engineering. Being high melting point, Scandium is used in high melting point light alloys such as scandium titanium alloy and scandium magnesium alloy in space and rockets manufacturing industries. Besides, the oxides of Scandium m metal plays an important role in refractory engineering ceramic materials as densifier and as stabilizer.
